GPT-5.6 is here: should your SMB actually switch?

AI for SMBOpenAIGPT-5.6LATAM

Why this matters for your SMB

GPT-5.6 is OpenAI's newest family. Three changes that affect SMBs:

  1. Lower cost per token — roughly 30% cheaper than GPT-4o for everyday tasks.
  2. Better at structured output — JSON mode is more reliable, fewer retries.
  3. Multilingual is genuinely good now — Spanish, Portuguese, and English all perform similarly.

For a small business, the question is whether the savings and quality lift justify migrating your existing automations.

My recommendation

If your current stack is GPT-4o or GPT-4-turbo and it's working, wait 60–90 days before migrating. The ecosystem catches up — n8n nodes, LangChain bindings, vendor docs — over the first quarter.

If you're starting fresh today, build on GPT-5.6 from day one. The cost difference pays for itself inside the first month on any workflow doing more than 100 runs/day.
